Stay Smarter

Useful to know upon arrival is that check-in is accomplished by the friendly staff at the ground floor Japanese restaurant This little but important piece of information will get your stay off to a good, fluid start. I would tell you to go ahead and ask them for recommendations-they tend to know the area well.

You can try the local dark beer ‘Altbier’. One popular means of doing this is by going to one of the original breweries (‘Brauhaus’) in the Altstadt like Uerige, or Füchschen. It’s a funny local tradition that says the waiters […] will bring you a new glass of beer as soon as you finish […] placing a tick against your beer mat […] until you surrender and lay the beer mat over your glass to tell them you are done.

For something amazing that costs nothing, take a walk along the Rheinuferpromenade at sunset and enjoy the views of the Rhine Tower, modern architecture of the Media Harbour in the distance, and bridges across the river. This is something locals love to do and that is how one can have a very relaxed evening. Take one of the fairly short river cruises from the nearby piers for another point of view.

As the hotel is situated in a very lively area, a great tip for those who sleep lightly is to ask for a room on the top floor. It could be so noisy from the square as well from surrounding bars especially over the weekends. Apart from that, they will have to get used to the German way of life since there is no breakfast provision in the hotel; go to a local ‘Bäckerei’ (bakery) for fresh bread rolls ‘Brötchen’, pastries and coffee and have a yummy and ‘local authentic’ start to your day.
